Winter Warm-up

As fall passes by unnoticed and winter approaches we are once more confronting the anergia and lack of drive known as seasonal affective disorder. This condition is understood to be part of a natural seasonal cycle particularly in people of With ancestors from temperate climates; and may actually have originated as a positive adaptation allowing one to consume more food while still conserving energy. Either way it is a challenging condition which can be alleviated by phototherapy, SSRI antidepressants and vitamin D.
As the earth tilts into winter we get plunged into 3 months of relative darkness. The fact that the air temperature is cold enough to put decent clothes back onto Mylie Cyrus, is irrelevant because SAD is almost entirely light dependent.

It is in this season that our vitamin D absorption is at its lowest. Vitamin D is essential for effective immune and neurological function, not to mention it’s importance in bone development. Deficiency can cause headaches, which is one reason why I give my wife mega doses of the stuff. It causes bone and joint pains and may well be implicated in multiple sclerosis.
Lastly, the flu shot is going to be coming around again. The only good news about this is that even Donald Trump gets a needle in the glutes, and not just once, the president prefers to get his flu viruses in separate injections. Look out for the circular email as I will be letting you know when it arrives in clinic.

If you are feeling any of the above and have any concerns feel free to drop in at the clinic.

You can now book an appointment online or a telemedicine appointment if you are unable to make it to the clinic.
